About the Site Editor

Henry Rasof ([email protected]), the site’s creator and editor, worked in book publishing for many years as an acquisitions editor of adult-trade, young-adult, text, and reference books for Arco Publishing, Houghton Mifflin, Franklin Watts, ABC-CLIO, Oryx Press, A.R.E. Publishing, Facts on File, ME Sharpe, and other companies. He also taught creative writing in the University College graduate program at the University of Denver. He has a BA in music, an MFA in creative writing, and an MA in Jewish studies.

He first “discovered” medieval Hebrew poetry several years ago and since then has been bitten by the bug. This web site was created as a project for his MA degree at Gratz College.

He also has been a poet for many years and has published in Partisan Review, Kansas Quarterly, Black Box, Wisconsin Review, Jewish Currents, Midstream, Poetica, HaLapid, and other literary magazines and anthologies. He also has published four print books of his poems and prose poems: The House (2008), Chance Music: Prose Poems 1974 to 1982 (2012), Here I Seek You: Jewish Poems for Shabbat, Holy Days, and Everydays (2016), and Souls in the Garden: Poems About Jewish Spain (copyright 2019. Slightly revised with a 2020 publication date). In 2019 he also published a .pdf of Rivers in Paradise: Jewish Poetry and Prose, comprising his Jewish writing not published in the two print books, and .pdfs of his three edited books: Bees in the Garden: Poems by the Masala Mystic; The Persian Letters: A Medieval Persian General’s Wartime Letters to His Wife; and The Wit, Whimsy, and Wordplay of Bernard Rasof: Diverse Verse and Nonverse. The last collection is of work by his late father (1918-2017) and is now available in a print edition.
